Pet Checkers
The term "Pet Sitter" implies
someone “sits” with your pet the entire time you are gone.

In most cases, however, it would be correct to use the term “pet checker”, as most only check on your pet once or twice during a twenty-four hour period.

Misconceptions
Many misconceptions exist between what professional pet care facilities can provide, and what pet checkers do in the absence of pet owners.  Because we  have a genuine interest in the welfare of all pets, here are some points for your consideration.

Pet Checker Situation

  • Pet is left alone 20-23  hours a day.

  • Pet may suffer needlessly due to delayed treatment of illness or accident.

  • Pet may suffer from separation anxiety and extreme boredom.  To entertain themselves or out of anxiety, they may become destructive or even forget house training.

  • With no social interaction or routine, the pet may howl or bark nonstop.

  • Pet may bar entry of pet checker - "protecting" his home, or hide under a bed,  preventing adequate care.

  • Pet may escape to hunt for his owner, or hurt himself trying, especially during thunderstorms, or fireworks.

The PET INN Resort & Spa

  • At the PET INN Resort & Spa our staff and/or resident manager is on site 24 hours a day to provide emergency care should the need arise.

  • Social interaction & daily routines that are designed for your pets' physical, mental, and emotional well being: i.e. 5 daily potty & playtimes, treats, special services, and swimming.

  • Immediate treatment of illness, injury, or stress-related symptoms.  Boarded pets are monitored individually throughout the day.  The Pet Inn's staff regularly notice symptoms that even the most attentive owners might overlook at home.

  • Special Care - the PET INN provides extra special services for old, young, and sensitive pets to insure their comfort and alleviate anxiety.

Costs
One of the primary reasons a pet owner may resort to a  'pet checkers'  is price.
The Pet Inn Resort & Spa is definitely NOT the cheapest pet care option.  As you well know, outstanding QUALITY never comes cheap and you truly do, " get what you pay for!"

The Pet Inn has invested great capital in our state-of-the-art facility.  We maintain a professional  well  trained staff and we spare no expense to insure the health, safety, comfort, and happiness of every pet staying with us.  We are financially motivated to provide excellent care and service and to develop and maintain long-lasting relationships with the pet owners.

Pet Security
Most dogs that end up as strays or in pounds have escaped from their yard while their owner was away.  Escape from the Pet Inn is non-existent.  Our facility is double fenced and triple gated, all exterior doors and gates are kept locked at all times, and our staff is ever vigilant.

Separation Anxiety
Pets suffer emotional stress when their owners leave whether they're left at home or placed in a boarding facility.  It's how those providing the care respond that makes the difference in the pet's emotional well being.

Boarded pets do not destroy carpeting, drapes, landscaping or your relationship with your neighbors.

Health & Welfare
Stresses brought on by the pet owner leaving may cause an illness to come on quickly.  Disorders such as bloat and heatstroke need immediate attention.         In- home accidents such as; ingesting household items, electrocution from chewing electrical cords,  or even a bee sting, can be very serious and possibly  fatal if not treated promptly.

Should problems occur between the pet checker's visits, it may be many hours before the problem is noticed - a very serious and possible deadly delay.

At the Pet Inn, the environment is pet safe!  All pets are monitored throughout the day and evening by staff trained to recognize early signs of illness. This prevents problems from escalating.  Staffing at the Pet Inn allows the pet to be taken to your veterinarian immediately if needed, and ensures the veterinarian's instructions are followed throughout the convalescence.

Boarded pets are required to have current vaccinations for contagious diseases. Pet checkers going from house to house may unknowingly  introduce virus to unvaccinated pets.

Home Security
While the care and well being of your pets is your main concern, you should also consider the risks of strangers (whether bonded or not) having access to your home and personal property.

Also consider what would happen to your pets in an emergency situation such as; fire, flood, or power outage.  Do you have written emergency action plans for the evacuation of your pets?  Is your home security system monitored?   Would the 'pet checker' be immediately notified in an emergency, know how to implement your emergency action plan, and most important, be able to respond in time?

NEXT TIME YOU PLAN A VACATION,
FOR YOUR PET'S SAKE,
 PLEASE CONSIDER THESE DIFFERENCES
